The Benefits of Playground Equipment

We all have fond memories of our school days, and certainly of the time that we spent outside playing. When I was a child ourdoor playgrounds consisted of some monkey bars, a tire, swings, and a slide. Nowadays there is so much equipment for kids to choose from.

1. Imaginative equipment:

In addition to physical stimulation, children need be stimulated mentally, and this can happen in and outside of the classroom. Imaginative playground equipment might include musical equipment, sand and water boxes, or performance and drama areas.

Benefits:

There are many benefits to imaginative playground equipment and imaginative play in general. Research has indicated that children who spend more time in dramatic play have a more advanced intellectual development. Moreover, children learn through playing. They learn language and social skills, they develop their creativity and imagination, and build their emotional strength. To be active and learning and the same time is an ideal combination.

2. Active equipment:

For the most part, when the recess bell rings, all kids want to do is run outside and exert all of their built up energy. Adventure climbing courses, slides, monkey bars, tennis courts, and sport fields are ideal for this purpose.

Benefits:

The benefits of physical activity should be obvious. Active children are reducing their chances of disease including obesity and depression. Physical exercise release chemical endorphins that make people feel happy and positive, which is extremely critical in all lives, but especially children's. By establishing good exercise habits when they're young, children are increasing their chances of maintaining a healthy regime and attitude throughout their lives.

3. Landscape features:

Despite their name, playgrounds are actually for more than just playing. Teachers need to be outside to monitor the children while they play and I doubt they'll want to sit on a tire. Moreover, a lot of students like to sit and talk with their friends during this break or eat their lunch, if the weather is nice. Equipment for a school or playground's landscape might include an outdoor classroom, picnic tables, benches, or playhouses.

Benefits:

Outdoor classrooms provide the ideal learning setting for teachers and students. Being out in nature puts students physically closer to a lot of things they are learning about. Moreover, fresh air makes people more alert and therefore more likely to generate ideas.

There are many more types of equipment that can be included in a playground setting, depending on your interests and budget, but these three umbrella areas are a good place to start.
